Asura and Macaria's parents were normal people, just a couple who married at a young age- stricken with love and eager to start a family. They were new to the land of Wind and were excited to start out fresh with a little family of their own. Their families called them fools for marrying so young and moving to a distant land, but the couple was adventurous and unafraid. They trusted in each other and had a strong family sense.
This family sense was tested, when they gave birth to their first daughter- had skin had been an odd color. The medical shinobi who assisted the birth commented that they had never seen such an unusual skin color before. The couple loved their daughter regardless, even if their baby's skin was a very light blue color. They raised her for a few years and then decided to try again; to their dismay, they birthed another blue baby. Worse of all, their eldest daughter began to sprout small horns through her dark blue hair.
The women of the village gossiped constantly about the weird family with blue children; they were ridiculed and rumored to be cursed by the gods. Their father had difficulty finding work in the village because of the rumors of curses, and their mother had no female friends and had difficulty shopping in the market. They fought to survive, every year until the girls were aged 5 & 10. The girls had been attending grade school but were not accepted by anyone, rather- they were picked on and Asura fought everyone, defending her beloved bigger sister.
Their demonic features, such as their horns and tail had already somewhat developed by then and it was impossible to hide such things. Their parents accepted them for who they were and told the girls to be proud of their skin color. Their mother scolded Asura daily to not fight the other children and encouraged Macaria to look after her troublesome little sister.
Around that time, a small famine had struck their village- food became scarce and people became edgy. It was out of fear and hysteria that the villagers let their rumors and gossip affect their judgment. They blamed the cursed family for their rotten luck- the more religious fanatics demanded "payment" to appease their gods. The villagers, eager to do anything to save their own lives, agreed full-heartedly or just turned a blind eye.
The girls were seized during school hours and taken to the courtyard where the village leaders had planned their execution. Their mother had already been captured and held in firm hands of the village men as the girls were prodded onto a stage. Their father had appeared from a nearby store and protested, only to be silenced by a knife in his throat. The crowd cheered and kicked his flailing body until he stopped moving; the mob had been excited and wanted more blood.
The girls were afraid and confused, not too sure why the mean people wanted to hurt their daddy or them even. Their mother broke free of the men's grip during the cheering and grabbed her daughter, running back to their house and barring the doors and windows. The villagers followed her back to the house and set the house ablaze; their mother stored them in a small hidden cellar in the stone flooring and closed it. She laid on top of the stone door and burned to death, protecting her daughters from the cruelty of the village.
Two days in the cramped dark cellar felt like forever to the scared hungry girls before they finally worked up the courage to leave the cellar at night. They found their mother's corpse, burnt to a crisp- and their father's as well, they had tossed his corpse into the fire and prayed that with the family burnt alive, the "curse" would be lifted.
Asura, too young to fully understand anything- only knew of the cruelty of the people; she despised the people and began to hate humans in general. Her sister and her had snuck out of the village that night and travelled the dessert until they chanced upon an uninhabited oasis. They lived at this oasis for a few years until a slave merchant found them and enslaved them.
